Our History

Welcome to the newly renovated and upgraded Sea Club Resort, located directly across the street from Fort Lauderdale Beach and the Atlantic Ocean!

The Sea Club Resort has recently undergone and completed a massive, multi-million dollar renovation.

Our mega renovation included both the exterior and interior of our building, all guest rooms, new landscaping, our restaurant – The Deck, and all public areas. The hotel also features a brand new, fully equipped fitness room, a new business center, and a brand new night club / lounge – Studio 619.

Actress Jayne Mansfield* and husband Mickey Hargitay (father of today’s Law and Order: Special Victims unit Mariska Hargitay) stayed at the Jolly Roger in February, 1962 when other hotels were booked. Mansfield, who was 28 then, obliged the press with a photo session at the hotel pool deck before their ill-fated trip to the Bahamas. (They were briefly shipwrecked on a small island when their boat, piloted by Gill’s public relations man, Jack Drury, broke down. Rescued the next morning, the trio made headlines world-wide.) Many other celebrities were regulars at the hotel, as it was amongst their favorite vacation spots (however, to protect their privacy, and for legal reasons, we cannot reveal their names).

The Deck Restaurant is located at the Sea Club Resort, a premier beachfront boutique hotel in Fort Lauderdale Beach. The property was originally built as the Jolly Roger Hotel, was designed by Miami architect Tony Sherman, and opened in 1952. The hotel was built in two phases, the first in 1951, while the second one came in 1959. The building concept was and still is very unique, in that it involved the use of local coral rock in its very structure. The rock was acquired from the ocean, just opposite the hotel, and to this day, has been preserved. The building architecture included a pirate-ship motif throughout, with features such as round porthole windows. The hotel was the first in the area to offer “in-room air conditioning.”
